Arizona auto insurance minimum coverage requirements are set by state lawmakers. Drivers in AZ must carry at least the minimum level of auto insurance coverage, or face severe consequences. One of the requirements to register your vehicle with the Arizona State Department of Motor Vehicles is that you produce proof of insurance.

Property Damage

In Arizona, drivers must have at least $10,000 in coverage to pay to repair property damaged in an accident. Property can refer to a damaged sign post, garage, building, shed, mail box, or the other vehicle involved in the accident.

Bodily Injury Liability

Bodily injury liability insurance pays for the medical bills for people in the other vehicle involved in an accident where you are considered to be at fault. You must buy at least $15,000 in coverage for a single person injured in an accident and $30,000 in coverage for all people injured in the same accident.

Penalties For Not Having Arizona Auto Insurance

If you are stopped by the police in Arizona, you will be asked to produce proof of insurance. Failure to do so may mean that your license will be suspended and your vehicle registration revoked. In order to get your vehicle registration reinstated, you will need to pay a fee, which may be quite expensive. You will also need to have your insurance company provide you with an SR22 form to confirm that you have the minimum level of coverage in place.

Is there a sure-fire way to get cheaper auto insurance rates? I’d like to minimize my premiums and spend more on my folks and family here in Arizona. Every cent should count.

Billy

Scottsdale, AZ

Hey there, Billy. You want a sure-fire way to get cheaper auto insurance rates? Well, you can try walking. Just kidding. No, seriously, you should try walking. I’ll explain in a while, but there’s really a number of ways to skin the auto insurance cat.

Lowering your auto insurance premiums will depend on whether you are just starting out with a new car or you are renewing your auto insurance with the same company you currently have. If you are starting out with a new car, there is no substitute for shopping around. You can definitely hunt for lower auto insurance rates online. Let’s say you’re adding up another car, you can use that as a bargaining chip with your current auto insurance provider. Safe driving is another way to get lower rates. If you can check your records with the Department of Motor Vehicles, you can spot your driving offenses. If your record is clean, you can use that with your auto insurance company to get a discount. Of course, if your offenses are less, the more the auto insurance company can bet on you. Now, in case you are renewing already, use that to your advantage. Your auto insurance company should recognize that and reward you with a loyalty discount.

I did say walking, remember? Well, you can get a discount from the auto insurance company by agreeing to a limit on the miles you do on your car. Either you keep it low by taking public transportation more often or you can try walking more. Get it?

Reader’s Question:

How can I lower premium for a high risk auto insurance in Arizona?

Bob

Phoenix AZ

Insurance companies have different criteria for placing a motorist on high risk. This could include driving long distances at high speeds in a period of one month, or getting frequently involved in at fault accidents in a short period of time. To be able to lower your premium for a high risk auto insurance in Arizona what you can do is know what made you become a high risk driver. If it’s about your driving fast on a fast car, then consider lowering your speed to a more acceptable level or changing your car to slower one.

If you have had too many traffic violations, try attending a seminar on traffic rules so that your memory will be refreshed and those faulty knowledge will be corrected. Try also looking at your record at the Department of Motor Vehicles to know why you require a high risk auto insurance in Arizona. You might be surprised at the number of violations you have in your record. If you see a pending violation in your record, make sure to pay the fine and call the DMV afterwards to clear the history.

You can also get important tips from auto experts and even insurers on how to get out of the high-risk category. When you have improved your record, it’s highly likely that your high risk auto insurance in Arizona will not be necessary.
