Reader’s Question:

Is there a sure-fire way to get cheaper auto insurance rates? I’d like to minimize my premiums and spend more on my folks and family here in Arizona. Every cent should count.

Billy

Scottsdale, AZ

Hey there, Billy. You want a sure-fire way to get cheaper auto insurance rates? Well, you can try walking. Just kidding. No, seriously, you should try walking. I’ll explain in a while, but there’s really a number of ways to skin the auto insurance cat.

Lowering your auto insurance premiums will depend on whether you are just starting out with a new car or you are renewing your auto insurance with the same company you currently have. If you are starting out with a new car, there is no substitute for shopping around. You can definitely hunt for lower auto insurance rates online. Let’s say you’re adding up another car, you can use that as a bargaining chip with your current auto insurance provider. Safe driving is another way to get lower rates. If you can check your records with the Department of Motor Vehicles, you can spot your driving offenses. If your record is clean, you can use that with your auto insurance company to get a discount. Of course, if your offenses are less, the more the auto insurance company can bet on you. Now, in case you are renewing already, use that to your advantage. Your auto insurance company should recognize that and reward you with a loyalty discount.

I did say walking, remember? Well, you can get a discount from the auto insurance company by agreeing to a limit on the miles you do on your car. Either you keep it low by taking public transportation more often or you can try walking more. Get it?

Reader’s Question:

Unfortunately, I was caught driving without car insurance recently and am now considered “high risk” in Chandler Arizona AZ. Can I still keep my existing car insurance or do I need to get another?

Charry

Chandler, AZ

Hello,

Yes Charry, you may still keep your existing, as long as it is not yet expired, car insurance but SR22 insurance will be added. SR22 insurance is considered an addendum to a car insurance policy that would satisfy the state requirements on car insurance.

You should know that Chandler Arizona AZ follows the SR22 insurance requirements. There is what is called the SR22 kind of communication among SR22 insurance companies and Phoenix’ secretary of state to keep track of certain persons who are considered high risk.

So if you had driving violations in Chandler Arizona AZ or in any other part of Arizona, you are required to have SR22 insurance usually for two to three years. SR22 insurance assures the state that you will continue or in your case, have at least the state’s minimum liability car insurance coverage. You wouldn’t want to be caught driving without car insurance again do you?

I also suggest that you do not delay in acquiring your SR22 insurance because the state of Arizona usually takes longer than other states to file. You may do all the transactions either by phone or online using your credit card. Documents will be sent to you by fax or by mail for you to affix your signature. Try shopping online for free quotes using the form that you see in this site.
